The concept of Web based monitoring of metering systems is rapidly gaining ground. If you have remote or inaccessible (e.g. offshore) meter stations, it is possible to connect to them over your normal IT network using Web server technology. This has the advantage of allowing you to "dial into" metering system computers from anywhere in the world without international call charges or slow modem connections.

As well as making metering system data more accessible to your own organisation, this technology opens up the possibility of HMS consultants being able to troubleshoot your system from anywhere in the world.

These systems have been pioneered in UK North Sea offshore operations with great success.
